Today, we’re going to talk about how to fix that – your personal brand.

What is your personal brand?

Well, it’s everything about you – your name, your image, the images you post on social media, your content, the events you host, the people who hang out with – everything.

What is the goal of a personal brand?

Why do you need a personal brand? Your brand keeps you top of mind when someone thinks of your area of expertise.

Imagine, there's an investor, and they have a lot of money. If they want to invest their money, they have to find someone to invest their money with. They find you and you invest in apartment buildings. They come to associate you with apartment building investing. Because you have built trust with your social media and your brand, this investor now trusts you. They’re going to pick you over someone they don't know, that they found on Google. That’s the power of a personal brand – you become the go-to person in your field.

There are a couple of other reasons why you should consider building up your personal brand.

First, it opens up opportunities for you. Opportunities to collaborate with people who are working bigger than you, opportunities to work with mentors.

Second, you’re bringing value to your audience.

If your audience wants to learn about something, you now have the power to teach them about that subject. It’s been said that the most valuable real estate sits between the ears, meaning the brain. So if you can occupy that real estate and make yourself top of mind, you're sitting on a goldmine.

How do you create a personal brand?

Here’s a six step process for creating a personal brand and staying consistent in building your image:

Pick one platform.

Pick one or maybe two, but you do not want to start posting to every single platform because you' don’t want to burn yourself out.

You might choose Instagram, for instance, because you can get a wider audience without alienating one group of people. With a platform like TikTok, you're going to see more of a younger audience, while Facebook is mostly older people.

You want to pick a platform that will allow you to speak to a wide audience.

Take is slow.

It’s hard to be consistent when you set goals that are way too big. If you commit to posting two videos every single day for the next 60 days, you're probably not going to be able to keep up.

When you plan your social media, stick to a do-able framework.

Create engaging content that adds value to other people.

People love value. If you offer value, your content will grow and your platform will grow and your brand will grow. You don't want to be boring. If you are boring, no one will like your content. You have to keep the content engaging. Be experimental. Have fun.

Be authentic and transparent.

Do not try and create a whole separate personality for your social media. It just doesn't look right. People can usually sniff out when something's not right. Plus, it's not you. People want to see the real you. That's what social media is all about. People follow you because they want you, so don't create a whole separate alter ego for what you want to accomplish.

Be relatable.

If your audience doesn't feel like they have common ground with you, it's going to be very hard to get them to engage with your content. Just be a regular person; be relatable, flaws and all.

Be consistent.

You won't build an audience if you're posting sporadically.

You want to be consistent and post around once a week up to once a day, maybe even more often. What matters is that you're not posting every once in a while.

This can be a problem if you can't record a video every single day or you can't put a post together every single day. So set aside time to put together posts. This is called batch recording.

You might have four hours one day where you're not doing anything – take that for hours and record a bunch of videos for your social media. That will be very helpful if you're limited on time as most people are.

In summary, you want to build a personal brand because it will build trust with your audience.

Building your brand will help add value to other people and it will create connections that you need to succeed in your business.
