What separates a thriving real estate business from one that constantly struggles? It often comes down to something simple yet powerful – your core values. Core values shape how you make decisions, lead your team, and choose partners. They guide how you operate when no one’s watching.

In real estate investing, success rarely happens alone. You work with lenders, investors, mentors, and partners. When everyone shares the same values, your business runs smoother and grows faster. At our companies, we’ve seen how defining and living by our core values transformed everything—from who we hire to how we close deals.

In this article, you’ll learn why identifying your values matters, the four values that drive our team, and how you can create your own framework for growth and alignment.

1. Make a Difference: Building Success Through Contribution and Teamwork

Our first value is:

Make a Difference.

It’s all about teamwork and contribution – helping others succeed while achieving your own goals. For my team and I, that means two audiences: the investors we serve and the people we work with in our coaching program

Here’s how that core value is woven into everything we do. Externally, our mission is to make a difference by helping people become financially free through real estate. We do that through education and opportunity.

We teach active investors how to find and close deals, and we provide high-quality opportunities for passive investors through our investing branch, Nighthawk Equity. Every action ties back to creating real financial impact.

Internally, the same principle applies. Our team supports each other’s growth, both personally and professionally. We practice “radical candor” – which is open, respectful communication that resolves issues instead of burying them. Making a difference means being the kind of person others can rely on; someone who helps elevate everyone around them.

Apply this to your business and relationships: every investor, client, and partner should walk away feeling you helped them move closer to their goals.

2. Do What You Say: Integrity as the Foundation of Trust

Our second value – do what you say – is about integrity and reliability. In any business, trust is currency. In real estate, it’s everything. Deals fall apart when people overpromise or fail to deliver.

Follow through on every commitment, no matter how small. If you say you’ll send an email by the end of the day, send it. If you promise an update by Friday, deliver it, or communicate early if plans change. Words matter, and consistent follow-through builds credibility.

Integrity simplifies partnerships. When you do what you say, you eliminate friction, reduce stress, and build confidence across your team and investors. Over time, that reputation compounds into opportunity.

3. Do Your Best: Excellence Through Accountability and Growth

Our third value is to do your best. It’s rooted in excellence and accountability and I’m a firm believer in that anything worth doing is worth doing right. M

Doing your best means paying attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and continuously improving. Perfection isn’t the goal here, it’s pride in what you’re doing. Would you only give 50% effort on a project that you really care about? High standards create trust and confidence both inside and outside your organization.

In this environment, learning never stops. Team members seek feedback, share ideas, and improve together. There’s no room for arrogance or “I already know this.” The focus stays on growth and delivering results that meet or exceed expectations.

This also means being transparent and open to feedback. In our team, we share progress and setbacks openly because clarity builds trust. When everyone knows where things stand, performance and accountability rise naturally.

4. Get Stuff Done: Efficiency, Initiative, and Results

Our fourth value is about efficiency, initiative, and execution:

Get Stuff Done.

We value people who move quickly, think strategically, and act decisively. We encourage team members to make decisions without waiting for permission. Mistakes happen—that’s fine. What matters is momentum and learning from them.

Part of getting stuff done is focusing on results, not activity. Being busy doesn’t always mean you’re being productive. If you spend the whole day responding to work emails, sure you’re busy, but is that contributing to any of your goals? How is that moving the needle forward?

Bringing It All Together

Core values aren’t just words—they’re the filter for every decision, partnership, and hire. Our four values …

  • Make a Difference.
  • Do What You Say.
  • Do Your Best.
  • Get Stuff Done.

Define how we operate and grow together.

When you align with people who share your values, everything gets easier. Conflicts shrink, trust deepens, and your business moves faster.

Define your own values—for your business and your family. They’ll guide your decisions, attract the right people, and keep you grounded as you scale. Even when challenges hit, your values remind you: this is all part of the adventure.
